Discover the provincial capital of the Rift Valley and the fourth largest City in Kenya

Flamingos at Lake Nakuru Nakuru town was established by the British during the colonial era as an administrative town for British settlers in the rift valley.

The major attractions in Nakuru are Lake Nakuru and Lake Nakuru national park, home to millions of flamingoes, pelicans and other animals.

Many mountain climbers enjoy climbing mount Menengai to see its huge crater. The mountain peak gives you an excellent view of Nakuru town and surrounding areas, great for taking pictures. There is also Mount Longonot, the highest mountain in the Rift Valley and a great place to visit too.

Lake Nakuru National Park is great for game viewing. It is home to the rare black and white rhino, Giraffes, Monkeys and many other animals. There is also an amazing 400 species of birds here.

You can also discover the carnivorous black storks, hovering around the lake, hunting for young and sick flamingos. Other places to view pink flamingos are on Lake Bogoria National Park and Lake Naivasha, all close to Nakuru town.

Pelicans at Lake Nakuru For those interested in Historical sites, you can visit the Hyrax Hill Prehistoric Site to see tools and artifacts from ancient times.

In the near by town of Nyahururu, you can visit the Thomson's Falls, a magnificent looking 236 Feet (72m) high waterfall on the Ewaso Nyiro river. The falling water creates a permanent mist in the air and is great to watch.

There are many mid range and top class accommodation facilities within Nakuru town and the neighboring Lake Nakuru National Park and Kembu campsite.

Hotel Waterbuck is located in Nakuru town. This beautiful hotel is designed with authentic African themes and has comfortable rooms, a courtyard and a swimming pool. Other similar hotels within Nakuru town include the Midland Hotel and Merica Hotel.

Rhino at Lake NAkuru While in Nakuru, you will have an opportunity to sample the delicious food from this region. They have diverse foods that can satisfy any taste. Some of their finest restaurants include the Merica Hotel, Bamboo Hut Chinese Restaurant and Courtyard Restaurant.

There are also many places serving traditional Kenyan dishes like Kienyeji, chapatti, Githeri, Ugali and Nyama Choma (Roast Beef).

There is also a vibrant nightlife in the town, with many Discos, dance halls, night clubs and a Casino.
