Nairobi National Park Nairobi National Park is only 20 minutes drive from Kenya's capital city of Nairobi. It is an ideal place to visit for people stopping over in the city for a short time and want to experience some of Africa's big game. Because of its close proximity to Nairobi City, it gets a lot of visitors, both tourists and local residents eager to see the wild game. |
The elephant is the only one of the 'big five' not found here. The leopard, lion, buffalo, rhino, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, antelope, wildebeest, eland, zebra and Thompson gazelle as well as many other species are here in abundance.

At the west end of the park is an Animal Orphanage, dedicated to young animals who are injured or deserted in the wild. In this facility, they are studied and cared for until they can be returned to the wild.
Attraction:The park has many different animals and vegetation. The vegetation consist of open grassland and acacia bushes. There is also a permanent river on the western side.
The park has about 400 species of permanent and migrant birds living there at different times of the year.
Nairobi National Park is the most successful of Kenya's rhino sanctuaries, producing many Rhino births in captivity and helping stock other national parks with these rare animals.

Other animal attractions on the park are the wildebeest, zebras, Black rhinoceros, lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah. There are many large herbivores too like the eland, buffalo, zebra and wildebeest.
Other attractions on Nairobi National Park are the Lone Tree, Directors tree planting site and the Nature Trails.
How to get there:Located only about 7 km from the city centre, the park is easily accessible by road.
Facilities:There are no accommodation facilities in the park since it is located so close to the city center, which has well developed accommodation facilities.
There are many Picnic Sites however. These include Impala Observation Tower; Ivory Burning Site; King Fisher Gorge; Leopard Cliffs; Mokoiyet and Hippo Pool.
