Mount Kenya National Park This National Park lies in the North East of Nairobi and is located on the forests at the foot of Mount Kenya. Mt. Kenya is an extinct volcano lying about 86 miles (140 km) from Nairobi. The mountain has two main peaks - Batian and Nelion. The mountain is an important water catchment area, supplying the Tana river and Ewaso Ngiro river with water from its melting glaciers. |

Mount Kenya National park's climate and vegetation vary, ranging from rain forest, to bamboo forest, alpine moorlands and finally glaciers at the top of the mountain.
Getting There:Roads: You can reach the park from Nairobi using the Nanyuki-Isiolo road, or the Nyeri-Nanyuki road or through Chogoria township using the Embu-Meru road.
Airstrips: The closest airstrip to the park is at Nanyuki town.
Attractions:The most popular attraction at Mount Kenya National Park is mountain climbing. Thousands of mountain climbers try to climb mount Kenya’s top peaks of Lenana and Batian every year.
It is also a great place to watch wildlife like Columbus Monkeys, bushbuck, buffalo, Olive baboon, waterbuck, rhino, leopard, hyena and the bongo.
Accommodation:Huts: These are small houses where you can stay while climbing the mountain. Some of them include: Liki North Hut; Minto's Hut; Austrian Hut; Mackinders Hut; Judmare Hut and Shiptons Hut.
Lodges: There are several high quality lodges at this park. The most popular are: Mountain Lodge from Serena Hotels and Rutundu Fishes Lodge.
