Mount Kenya

Mt. Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest in Africa after Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The highest peaks of Mount Kenya are Batian at 5,199 m(17,058 ft), Nelion at 5,188 m (17,022 ft) and Lenana at 4,985m (16,355 ft) above sea level.

It is one of the few places in

Africa near the equator that has permanent glaciers. So if you like to see winter-like environment in the tropics, this is the place for you. It has crisp clean air that will clean your lungs and improve your health.

The mountain is about 100 miles north of Nairobi. The mountain can sometimes be seen from some tall buildings in Nairobi.

Apart from mountain climbing, Mount Kenya National Park is located just at the foot of the mountain, a place you can see all the Kenya wild animals you have never seen.

Mt. Kenya is also a very important water catchment area and many rivers emerge from its melting glaciers. The great abundance of rivers there will give you an opportunity to engage in whitewater rafting and even Bungee jumping at the river creeks.

Several thousands mountain climbers both local and international come to climb the mountain every year. These climbers are gladly surprised to find that there are several high quality hotels at the base of the mountain to cater to their every need.
