Lake Nakuru National Park

This is a big national park a short distance from Nakuru town. It is located on Lake Nakuru with its spectacular view of millions of flamingos. There are also several giraffes and black rhinos.

Lake Nakuru was made a bird sanctuary in the 1960’s. The park's huge number of flamingos is supported by rare plants found only on Lake Nakuru.

Landscape:

Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake located near Nakuru town. The landscape includes marshlands and grasslands with rocky cliffs and acacia bushes.

The Climate is varied ranging from Cold, Hot and Humid to Hot and Dry.

How to get there:

Roads: The park can be accessed by good paved road connecting it from Nairobi city and Nakuru town.

Airstrips: The park can also be accessed through the Naishi airstrip which is used by both tourists and the Kenya Wildlife Service.

Major attractions:

The major attraction on Lake Nakuru National Park is the Flamingo and other water birds, which number about 450 species in total. There are several mammals like the white rhinos, lions and baboons.

Accommodation:

Accommodation on Lake Nakuru park include several campsites with running waters and good sanitary facilities. There are also several Lodges like the Lake Nakuru lodge & Sarova Lion Hill Lodge.

There are also special Campsites include Naishi, Chui, Rhino, Soysambu, Nyati, Nyuki and reedbuck.
