Mount Kilimanjaro offers magnificent sights of its three highest snow capped peaks of Kibo, Mawensi, and Shira.
The mountain itself is an amazing sight. It rises to 19,336 feet (5,895 metres) and is surrounded by relatively flat land, making it seem even higher than it is.
Every year there are thousands of hikers and climbers who try to climb the mountain. While most don’t succeed, it is still a great experience and also great place to socialize with the other visitors.
Watching wildlife, photography and hiking are other attractions at the mountain. It is home to four big Animal reserves both in Kenya and Tanzania. These include:
Mount Kilimanjaro’s vegetation is unique too. As you ascend the mountain, you will experience rapidly changing climatic zones, from warm tropical climate at the bottom to lush rainforests as you go higher and finally to cold arctic climate at the top.
Several animals live near the mountain. These include leopards, elephants, antelopes and buffalo.
There are many places to spend the night here, ranging from tented camps to luxury hotels. There are also several campsites, real village inhabited by local people where tourists are invited to spend time and learn local cultures. They have guides who also act as translators.
Kilimanjaro area has good hotels located in the neighboring towns of Moshi and Arusha. You can easily find a basic room for around US$20 per night. There are also nicer hotels in the US$40-100 range.
