By Air: If you wish to explore Kenya by air, you will be pleased to discover that there are several airline companies that offer domestic flights. These include Kenya Airways and other small airlines like Eagle Aviation, Air Kenya and African Express Airways which operate from Nairobi Wilson Airport. |
The places you can go by air are Amboseli, Kisumu, Lamu, Malindi, Masai Mara, Mombasa, Nanyuki, Nyeri, and Samburu among others.
By Train:Kenya train service is of good quality abd has several couch classes. First class, second class and third class rides are available. First class is the most comfortable but the most expensive.

The train route to Mombasa is the most popular as it gives a fantastic views of the Tsavo Game reserve with its magnificent animals while in the safety of your cabin.
By BusThere are many bus companies serving all routes in Kenya. Many buses are well run and provide a comfortable ride between the major cities and towns.
Taxis and Matatu:There are many Taxis in the main cities and towns. These taxis are of good quality and offer good service.
You can also try a ride on a Matatu and you will find it exciting. Matatus operate on set routes and passengers embark and disembark at whatever point they choose. They are often colorfully painted and some play music in the vehicle which is quite exciting.
By Car:If you would like to have more independence while traveling, you can rent a car. There are several car rental companies in the major cities including Avis, Hertz.
You will need to drive on the left side of the road and you will also need an international driving license and a major credit card to rent a car. I don’t advice driving at night.
By Boat:If you want to explore Lake Victoria (Africa’s biggest lake), you will need to use the Ferries that ply the Victoria. Ferries are quite comfortable and cheap and hence a popular way to travel.
At the Kenyan coast, you can travel the seas using the Dhows. Dhows are traditional sailing boats originally used by Arab traders in ancient days.
You can rent a dhow from various companies in Lamu, Malindi and Mombasa.
