Eldoret Kenya Eldoret is a major town in western Kenya lying south of the Cherangani Hills. It has a population of about 200,000 people and is the fastest growing town in Kenya. The name Eldoret originates from the Maasai word Eldore which means stony river because the bed of the nearby Sosiani River is very stony. |
Strangely enough, Eldoret was founded by Afrikaan speaking South Africans in 1910, a rarity in the then British controlled territory.

You may pitch tents and head to a little cave bar for some warm alcoholic beverage and cook in the open fire at night. It is a wonderful experience of the African Night.

If you visit Eldoret town, don’t leave until you check out one of their wonderful nightclubs. Many clubs here are open all night and plays the latest pop music and feature amazing Cyclic disco lighting.

Eldoret is a major economic town in Kenya. It has a two big colleges, Moi University and Eldoret Polytechnic. There is also an International Airport in Eldoret.
There are major manufacturing industries including cheese factories, textile Factories, wheat, pyrethrum and corn processing. These industries are served by the rich agricultural lands surrounding the town with their large productive farms.
SportsEldoret is the hometown of many legendary Kenyan runners, the most famous being the long distance runner Kipchoge Keino. Its high altitude is an ideal training ground for many long distance runners.
